With great reluctance and after much discussion NARR has decided to replace our October national conference with a virtual event. Although official travel and event restrictions will almost certainly be lifted by October these factors weighed heavily on decision:
Many people may still be reluctant to travel, especially those with conditions placing them at continuing risk of infection.
Our community is suffering extreme economic hardship resulting from stay-at-home orders, business closures and employment losses. Even with loosening of current restrictions many will find it financially difficult to afford travel and other event-related expenses.
Despite having made this difficult decision we know that the information presented at NARR conferences is highly valued. The virtual event we envision will occur in early to mid-October, the same time window in which our live conference usually occurs. It will be a well-produced multi-day affair featuring nationally known speakers and panelists. Participants will incur a modest registration fee to cover production costs. You can aid us in preparing in two ways. First, please take this short survey about your interest in participating and the content you would like to see included. Second, please forward this information to the providers and residences you support. We have sent a similar announcement to our large distribution list, which contains only some of the people you serve. We have not given up on re-starting our annual face-to-face conference, which has become a major event for our community. We will have more information about that to share with you in the near future. In the meantime, please stay healthy and safe. With kind regards, NARR Board of Directors and staff
