MAT SERIES TRAININGS


The Pennsylvania Alliance of Recovery Residences and the Opioid Response Network are pleased to offer a series of interactive virtual events focused on implementing medication-assisted treatment(MAT) in recovery housing. We encourage you to attend all sessions, where you can ask questions and interact with presenters. All sessions will be recorded. Participants are eligible to receive certificates of attendance for completing online events.

Session 1: The Science of Addiction and the Medications Used to Treat it

April 24, 2019 2:00-3:00 pm ET

Presenters will discuss myths, facts, and science as it pertains to substance and opioid use disorder. The audience will learn about the brain and addiction, as well as the differences between medications used to support recovery, and how they play a role in diminishing cravings and restoring balance.

Session 2: Medication-Assisted Recovery

May 7, 2019 2:00-3:00 pm ET

In this session, the audience will learn about the intersectionality of recovery and housing, particularly focusing on settings accommodating people who use MAT. Presenters will discuss challenges and opportunities, and provide an overview of multiple pathways to recovery relative to stigma for people with opioid use disorder (OUD).

Session 3: Implementing Medication-Assisted Treatment in Recovery Housing: Structure

May 22, 2019 2:00-3:00 pm ET

For our third training, presenters will focus on capacity development for implementation of MAT accommodations. We will take a closer look at the National Alliance for Recovery Residences (NARR) Levels of Support and discuss characteristics for effective implementation of MAT proficient housing. Presenters will also compare and contrast mixed vs. non-mixed populations utilizing MAT in recovery housing, as well as screening, fair housing, house structure, policies, and procedures.

Session 4: Implementing Medication-Assisted Treatment in Recovery Housing: Operations

June 5, 2019 2:00-3:00 pm ET

Our fourth training focuses on structure, security, and operations. Presenters will discuss securing medications and records, staffing, prescriber relationships for support, urinalysis procedures, privacy, accountability, and liability concerns.

Session 5: Overcoming Stigma Related to Medication-Assisted Treatment in Recovery Housing

June 19, 2019 2:00-3:00 pm ET

As we near the end of our training sessions, presenters will discuss ongoing education and training for staff and peers, the effect of stigma and benefits for overcoming it, and addressing stigma with effective strategies in the community. We will provide a judgment-free zone to examine our own biases pertaining to people with OUD or using MAT.

Session 6: Lessons from Pennsylvania

July 10, 2019 2:00-3:00 pm ET

In this last online session, presenters will conduct a panel discussion with staff from local recovery residences currently implementing MAT accommodations for residents. Presenters will discuss successes, lessons learned, examine barriers and review primary FAQ discussed throughout the 6 virtual trainings. We will also share information about upcoming regional onsite trainings in July, occurring in Philadelphia, York, and Pittsburg, PA.
